Niagara Falls to Oakland, 77-64

Rochester, MI – The Purple Eagles (1-1, 0-0 MAAC) fell to Oakland, 77-64, Friday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action from O'Rena in Rochester, MI. 
 
Niagara freshman Aaliyah Parker finished with a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Junior Angel Parker recorded a game-high 22 points while grabbing eight boards and dishing out six assists. 
 
Game Recap
First Quarter
• Oakland (1-1, 0-0 Horizon) jumped out to an early lead as they started the contest on a 14-3 run. 
• The remaining 5:37 of the first was more back-and-forth as Niagara went 4-for-9 from the floor, making the score 27-13 as the clock went to zero.
• Angel scored six of her 22 points in the first quarter, followed by three from Maddy Yelle and two from Olivia Mason and Aaliyah.
 
Second Quarter
• Niagara trimmed the Oakland lead to nine, 33-24, as Angel scored in the lane to cap off an 11-6 run to start the second. 
• Parker scored seven of Niagara's 11 points to start the frame and move her total to 13.
• Oakland would respond with a 10-0 run to close out the second and take a 43-24 lead into the intermission.
 
Third Quarter
• Niagara shot 47.1 percent from the field in the third quarter, while the Golden Grizzlies shot 57.1 percent. 
• Oakland finished the frame with 22 points, compared to 21 for the Purple Eagles, resulting in a 20-point lead, 60-40 for the home team.
• Angel and Aaliyah combined for 16 of NU's 21 points in the quarter, with Maddy Yelle contributing four points. 
 
Fourth Quarter
• With Niagara facing its largest deficit of the afternoon, 62-40, the Purple Eagles went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by four points from Sydney Faulcon and a 3-pointer from Ally Haar
• The final six minutes of action were highlighted by Aaliyah, who scored six of her final 18 points in that span.
• Aaliyah grabbed her 10th board at the 2:04 mark of the quarter to complete her double-double performance.
• However, Oakland's lead would prove to be too much for the Purple and White as the Golden Grizzlies would hold on for a 77-64 win.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara falls to 3-7 all-time against Oakland. 
• The Parker sisters were responsible for more than half the Purple Eagle points, combining to go 15-for-31 from the field, 3-for-8 from 3-point land, and 7-for-11 from the line. 
• Aaliyah nearly finished the game with a triple-double as the freshman registered seven steals. 
• Angel's 22 points marked the fifth time the junior eclipsed the 20-point mark, and the 15th time she finished with double-digits in her career. 
• For the second-straight game, Angel, was the team leader in assists with six. 
Maddy Yelle finished the game with 10 points, her second-straight game reaching double-figures. 
• All six of Faulcon's points came in the fourth quarter of play. 
• Niagara narrowly lost the battle on the boards, 38-36.
• The Purple Eagles forced a season-best 28 turnovers.
