Women's Basketball Welcomes Loyola for Season Opener

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara will officially tip off the 2021-22 season against former MAAC foe Loyola (Md.) on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The contest between the Purple Eagles and Greyhounds will start at 1 p.m. from the Gallagher Center. 
 
Last Time Out: Exhibition vs. D'Youville
• The Purple and White defeated D'Youville in an exhibition game last Friday by the final score of 100-72.
• Six Purple Eagles recorded double-digits, highlighted by 19 points from Sydney Faulcon and Ally Haar
Angel Parker finished the game with 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. 
Maddy Yelle added 11 points, while Lore Porter and Saige Glover contributed 10 points apiece off the bench. 
• As a team, Niagara shot 42.6 percent from the field, including a 25.0 percent mark from 3-point land and a 60.0 percent clip from the line.
• Niagara won the rebound battle, 56-50, led by Parker and Faulcon, who each grabbed seven boards. Six other Purple Eagles grabbed at least four caroms.
• NU forced 31 turnovers, resulting in 34 points.
 
Niagara Notes
• The Purple and White went 4-7 overall and 4-6 in MAAC play in 2020-21.
• Niagara was led by 2021 All-MAAC Second Team selection, Angel Parker. Parker averaged 15.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per contest. 
• Parker was named to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team, as announced by the league office on Oct. 19 during the annual MAAC Basketball Preseason Awards Show.
Ally Haar was also a key contributor in 2020-21, averaging 12.6 points per game, followed by Maddy Yelle, who averaged 9.1 points in 11 games.
Olivia Mason and Sydney Faulcon were Niagara's leaders in the frontcourt, contributing 9.1 and 8.5 points per game, respectively. 
• Mason was second on the team with 5.6 rebounds per game, while Faulcon grabbed 5.3 boards per contest off the bench.
• Niagara was the No. 8 seed in the MAAC Championship last March. The Purple Eagles fell to Siena in the first round by a final score of 65-74.
• The Purple Eagles were selected to finish seventh in the MAAC this season.
 
Series History
• Tuesday's matchup will mark the first meeting between the Purple Eagles and Greyhounds since Feb. 7, 2013, when Loyola was still a MAAC member. 
• Niagara and Loyola have met a total of 51 times dating back to 1990.
• Niagara is 2-3 in the last five meetings with the Greyhounds, including wins on Jan. 29, 2012 (68-48) and Jan. 31, 2013 (71-68 OT).
 
Spectator Policy
• Starting Nov. 1, fans at all Niagara's indoor sporting events must show proof of Covid-19 vaccination to enter.
• Acceptable proofs of vaccination include: a physical vaccination card or certificate, New York State Excelsior Pass, CLEAR Digital Vaccine Card, Canadian Vaccination Receipt, and digital vaccine verifications issued by states outside of New York. Photo ID may also be required.
• Children under the age of 12 may enter without vaccination, as long as they are accompanied by a vaccinated adult, and must wear a mask except when eating or drinking.
• Fully vaccinated fans are not required to wear masks, although it is strongly encouraged for all fans.

• Niagara will travel to the Great Lake State for two games, the first a battle with Oakland University on Friday, Nov. 12, followed by Michigan State on Sunday, Nov. 14.
