Purple Eagles Drop Road Contest with La Salle

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Despite a game-high 24 points from Angel Parker, the Purple Eagles were bested by La Salle Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action, 83-71.  
 
Game Recap
First Quarter
• The first five minutes saw two ties and two lead changes, resulting in a 9-8 lead for La Salle at the first media timeout. 
• The Explorers would close the period on a 16-7 run to take a 25-15 advantage into the second quarter.
• Niagara went 7-for-18 from the floor in the opening frame, with Olivia Mason and Maddy Yelle combining for eight of the Purple Eagles 15 points. 
 
Second Quarter
  The Explorers would build their lead to 37-21 midway through the second. 
• Angel scored six points, and Ally Haar connected from 3-point land to highlight a 10-0 run by the Purple Eagles and bring the score within six, 37-31.
• La Salle wouldn't let Niagara get any closer in the first half as the Explorers went on a 10-7 run to close out the quarter and take a 47-38 lead into the intermission.
• Niagara outscored La Salle in the second quarter, 23-22. 
• It was the best quarter for the Purple and White in terms of shooting percentage as Niagara finished the frame with a 45.0 percent clip from the floor. 
• Angel had the bulk of the points for Niagara in the second, scoring 15 of her 24 points in the frame.  
 
Third Quarter
• Niagara opened the third with a 7-2 run to pull within five, 50-45. 
• During the run, Lore Porter connected from 3-point land, and Angel and Sydney Faulcon scored two points each. 
• La Salle built its lead back up to 12-points, 63-51, following a 13-6 outburst. 
• The lead would continue to grow for La Salle, reaching a game-high 17 points (70-53) with less than a minute left in the stanza. 
Saige Glover would score on a layup to make the score 70-55 in favor of the Explorers heading into the final 10-minutes of action.
 
Fourth Quarter
• By the midway point of the fourth, Niagara would pull back within 10, outscoring the Explorers 13-9 in the opening portion of the period, to make the score 76-66.
• In that span, five Purple Eagles recorded a basket, led by Mason with four points, Glover with three, and Porter, Haar, and Faulcon contributing two points. 
• That's as close as NU would get as La Salle scored seven of the game's final 12 points to secure the 83-71 win over the Purple Eagles. 
 
Niagara Notes
• The 24 points by Parker is a season-high, surpassing her previous high of 22 points she scored at Oakland. The junior now has five games of 20 or more points in her career. 
• Angel finished the game 9-for-18 from the field while adding a team-best five assists and eight steals.
• Mason finished with nine points and a Purple Eagle team-high eight rebounds.
• Porter added eight points and seven rebounds off the bench for Niagara.  
• Haar and Yelle contributes eight and seven points, respectively.
• A total of 38 of Niagara's 71 points came in the paint.
• The Purple Eagles forced 27 La Salle turnovers, resulting in 29 points for the Purple and White. 
• Niagara finished the game with a season-high 20 steals, with seven Purple Eagles recording at least one.
 
Up Next
 • Niagara will return to the Gallagher Center for a Little Three matchup against Bonaventure on Tuesday. The contest between the Bonnies and Purple Eagles will start at 3:00 p.m.
