Purple Eagles Defeat Colgate, 74-65

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Four Purple Eagles register double-digit points, and Aaliyah Parker finishes with 19 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season as Niagara (2-2, 0-0 MAAC) defeats Colgate 74-65 Wednesday night at the Gallagher Center.
 
Game Recap
First Quarter
• With the score 6-6 with 6:32 on the clock, Niagara would use a 10-5 run over the next 4:55 to get its largest lead of the opening frame, 16-11. 
• Aaliyah scored six points during the run to pace the Purple Eagle offense that went 3-for-5 from the floor, including 1-for-2 from downtown.   
• Colgate would trim that lead to 16-15 in the last 1:51 of the quarter by scoring four unanswered.  
• Aaliyah and Angel Parker combined for 13 points in the opening frame as Niagara took a one-point lead into the second.
 
Second Quarter
 The second stanza started with an 11-2 run by the Raiders, giving the visitors their largest lead of the contest, 26-18. 
• The Purple Eagles would get as close as two points, 28-26 at 3:43 and 31-29 at 1:52, before Aaliyah drained a 3-pointer from the top of the arc as time expired to trim the Raider lead to just one point, 33-32.
• Once again, Aaliyah was the primary scoring option for the Purple and White as she finished the quarter with six points, followed by four points from Maddy Yelle and Sydney Faulcon
 
Third Quarter
• Niagara's first lead since early in the second quarter came when Aaliyah would drive to the basket with 7:40 on the clock, putting NU up 36-35. 
• A few possessions later, after Colgate retook the lead and had a 38-36 advantage, Lore Porter would connect on her first of three 3-pointers in the frame to give Niagara a 39-38 lead. 
• Porter and the Purple Eagles would go on a 7-2 run with five points from the sophomore guard. 
• Niagara would outscore the Raiders, 15-11 over the remaining 6:08, to take a 54-49 advantage into the final quarter of play.
• The Purple Eagles scored 22 points in the third on 7-for-18 shooting, including a 3-for-7 mark from 3-point land. 
 
Fourth Quarter
• Early in the fourth, the Purple and White recorded a 9-0 run to take a 58-53 lead over Colgate. 
Kyra Grimshaw connected on a 3-pointer and two at the line during the run to help Niagara build its lead. 
• The Purple Eagles' largest lead of the night came with 3:09 remaining, 69-56, after Aaliyah scored off an offensive rebound. 
• The 13-point lead would help cushion a last-ditch comeback effort from the Raiders and give Niagara a 74-65 win.
 
Niagara Notes
• After tonight's 19 points and 10 rebound performance, Aaliyah now has two double-doubles on the season. Her first double-double came against Oakland last Friday.
• Angel, Faulcon, and Porter each finished with 11 points on the night as Niagara had four Purple Eagles reach double-digits for the second time this season.
• Angel also collected six assists, four rebounds, and two steals. 
• All of Porter's career-high 11 points came in the third quarter. 
• Grimshaw finished with a career-best nine points, surpassing her previous career-high mark of eight points she set at Michigan State on Sunday.
Maddy Yelle contributed six points, six boards, and three assists. 
• As a team, Niagara shot 37.1 percent from the floor, including 33.3 percent from 3-point land.
• Niagara was successful on 67.7 percent of its free throws. 
• After setting a season-high with 34 bench points against Michigan State, the Purple Eagle reserves collected 39 points Wednesday night. 
• The Purple Eagles also won the battle on the glass, 47-30, with 23 of their rebounds coming on the offensive end and leading to 18-second chance points. 
• Niagara also scored 28 points in the paint and 23 points off turnovers.
