Niagara Falls To Rider Despite Early Lead

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Despite an early lead, the Purple Eagles men's soccer team (3-7-0, 1-2-0 MAAC) fell to Rider (5-4-1, 2-1-0 MAAC), 2-1, on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • Jelldrik Dallmann had the first opportunity of the game for the Purple Eagles, sending a shot to the bottom center of the net that was saved by the Rider keeper in the 18th minute.
  • In the 38th minute, Federico Cugge scored to give the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead. Josh Tufino assisted on the goal.
  • Rider scored in the 54th minute to the score, 1-1.
  • In the 84th minute, the Broncs struck again to take a 2-1 lead and held NU scoreless for the remainder of the game to come away with the 2-1 win.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Dallmann, Cugge, Stephen Hasse, Luigi Boa Morte and Kevin Payne each had one shot for the Purple Eagles. Dallmann and Cugge's shots were NU's two shots on goal.
  • Cugge's goal was his second of the season and Tufino's assist was his first of the season.
  • Josh Savoni (2-4-0) made two saves.

Coach's Corner
  • "Our guys gave everything they had today and I'm proud of them," said head coach Bill Boyle. "Against one of the best teams in the league, we had control for much of the game."
