NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles (6-8-0, 4-3-0 MAAC) earned their first clean sheet of the season behind a career-high 11 saves from
Josh Savoni, defeating the Iona Gaels (6-7-2, 3-4-1 MAAC), 1-0, on Saturday night.
Game Recap
- Luigi Boa Morte had an early chance for NU, with a shot to the bottom center of the net, but it was saved.
- In the fifth minute, Jelldrik Dallmann scored his ninth goal of the season, after stealing the ball from the Gaels, to give Niagara the 1-0 lead.
- Dallmann had another strong opportunity in the 27th minute, but his attempt didn't get past the Iona keeper.
- Rodrigo Almeida and Stephen Hasse both had a shot on goal in the remainder of the first half, but neither found its mark.
- Savoni (4-4-0) made four saves in the first half.
- Gabriel Mikina has the first opportunity of the second half for the Purple Eagles, but it was saved.
- In the 55th minute, Savoni made an impressive save on an Iona penalty kick, diving across the front of the net to keep the MAAC's leading goal-scorer from netting a goal.
- Niagara remained in control for the rest of the game, with Savoni making seven saves in the second half, to earn the clean sheet victory.
Eagle's Eye On
- Dallmann led the Purple Eagles with four total shots and two shots on goal.
- Nuukele Gboe added three shots and Mikina and Federico Cugge each took two shots.

- "I'm very proud of the whole team and Josh Savoni making a huge save on the penalty kick," said head coach Bill Boyle. "To get the clean sheet finally is such a great feeling."
