POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – After a second-half comeback thanks to two goals from
Jelldrik Dallmann, the Purple Eagles (6-9-0, 4-4-0 MAAC) fell to Marist (9-6-2, 6-2-1 MAAC), 3-2, in double overtime on Wednesday.
Game Recap
- The Red Foxes scored in the 14th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead over the Purple Eagles and extended their lead, 2-0, in the 31st minute.
- Herman Aalberg had the first chance of the game for NU, placing a shot towards the bottom center of the net in the 65th minute, but it was saved.
- Dallmann would strike less then two minutes late. A little under 67 minutes into the game, Dallmann, assisted by Nuukele Gboe, scored to cut the Marist lead in half, 2-1.
- Gboe had an opportunity for the Purple Eagles in the 73rd minute, but it was saved by the Marist keeper.
- In the 84th minute, Dallmann scored on a penalty kick to tie things up, 2-2.
- The teams were tied at the end of regulation, sending NU to its first overtime game of the season.
- Dallmann took a shot in the 97th minute of play, but it was saved. The score remained tied and the Purple Eagles and Red Foxes went into a second overtime period.
- The Red Foxes scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 102nd minute.
Eagle's Eye On
- Dallmann has scored 11 goals on the season, becoming the first NU player since 2011 (Carl Haworth, 12) to score double-digit goals in a single season. It is his third two-goal game this season.
- Dallmann led the team in shots (four) and shots on goal (three).
- Nick Burke (2-5-0) made three saves.
Coach's Corner
- "The boys had a below average first half, and you can't afford to do that in play-off level college soccer," said head coach Bill Boyle. "I am proud of them for coming back and almost winning the game in the first overtime, but we have to play that way all the time. We are getting there and look forward to playing at home Saturday!"
