Women’s Soccer to Make Short Trip Wednesday to Canisius

GAME 15: Niagara (11-3, 5-2) at Canisius (0-13-2, 0-8-0)
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Purple Eagles will head to downtown Buffalo Wednesday to take on Battle of the Bridge Rival Canisius at 7 p.m. from the Demske Sports Complex.
 
Series History
• Niagara is 2-0-3 in the last five meetings with the Golden Griffins, including two wins during the 2021 spring season.
• The Purple Eagles outscored Canisius 7-3 in their two contests last season. Florence Vaillancourt, Djeynaba Thiam and Emma Bough each recorded goals in the wins, with Thiam scoring twice in the 6-3 win over the Griffs on April. 6.
 
Niagara Notes
Florence Vaillancourt was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week with her two goals, two assists and six-point effort that helped Niagara collect wins over Siena and Rider.
• Freshman keeper Felicia Grufman earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors after registering her first two clean sheets of the season last week, making three saves in each win.
• Vaillancourt is second in the MAAC with 11 goals and nine assists. She ranks 10th in goals per game (0.85) ninth in the NCAA in assists per game (0.69), fifth in total points (31), fourth in game-winning goals (5) and second in shot accuracy (0.730).
• Thiam is third on the team with six goals and six assists. The junior has recorded at least one point in nine of her 14 games played.
• Three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week, Maia MacLean is second on the team with seven goals.
• Grufman is the Purple Eagles leader in goals against average (1.13) and a save percentage (.756). The freshman has allowed just 10 goals in 10 games played and is 7-2 on the season.
• Niagara has eight student-athletes with two or more goals this season after Ida Miceli recorded her second goal of the season against Siena last Wednesday.
• Seven Purple Eagles have two or more assists on the year, with Vaillancourt and Emma Bough leading the way with nine and seven, respectively.
 
Canisius Notes
• The Golden Griffins have yet to find the win column under first year head coach Ryan Louis.
• Canisius has scored just six goals this season, while allowing 34. Jen Romero is the teams leader in goals with three.
• In net for the Griffs are Jessica Jones and Jordan Spencer. Jones leads the team with a 1.72 GAA and save percentage of .740.
