Angel Parker recorded her first career double-double en route to an 81-63 victory over Iona on Saturday. She was just one assist shy of a triple-double with a career-high 26 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.
Game Recap
1st Quarter
- The Purple Eagles started the game strong, going on a 6-1 run to get ahead of the Gaels within the first three minutes of the quarter.
- With 31 seconds remaining in the quarter, Ally Haar sank her first three of the game to give Niagara a six-point lead over the Gaels, 16-10.
- As time expired, Angel Parker drained a 3-pointer to put the Purple Eagles ahead, 19-10, going into the second quarter.
2nd Quarter
- The Purple Eagles maintained control in the second quarter. Parker converted a 3-point play with a little under four minutes remaining in the half to keep NU ahead by nine, 25-16.
- Sydney Faulcon, Valentina Pepic and Kyra Grimshaw each had a bucket in the remainder of the quarter and the Purple Eagles led the Gaels, 31-26, at halftime.
3rd Quarter
- Four points from Olivia Mason and another trey from Haar gave Niagara a 36-28 advantage over the Gaels with over five and a half minutes left to play in the third quarter.
- A bucket from Haar with about 4:40 to go started the Purple Eagles on a 10-0 run, which included four points from both Haar and Grimshaw and two points from Parker, to put NU ahead by 16 points, 48-32.
- Parker hit another 3-point buzzer beater to end the third quarter and keep Niagara in the lead, 51-37, going into the final 10 minutes of play.
4th Quarter
- Haar opened scoring in the fourth quarter with her career-best third triple of the game.
- Parker had a high-scoring fourth quarter, adding 13 points for the Purple Eagles, and Maddy Yelle added six points.
- The Purple Eagles maintained the lead for the remainder of the game, earning their first victory of the season.
Eagle's Eye On
- Parker, who led all scorers, had a career-high 26 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists and tied her career-high in steals with five. She led the Purple Eagles in all four categories.
- Haar scored a career-high 19 points and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, which is also a career-best.
- Yelle and Grimshaw also set career-highs in scoring. Yelle had 10 points and Grimshaw added eight points. Yelle also had a career-high five rebounds.
- Mason dished out a career-best three assists.
- Pepic added 10 points for Niagara, just two short of her career-high.
