Niagara Drops Game With Billikens

 
LONGWOOD, Fla. – In the fifth and final game of its opening weekend, the Niagara softball team fell to Saint Louis by a 3-2 score.

  • After the Billikens took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Purple Eagles fired right back. Shayna Myshrall worked her way to a full count before slugging a game-tying home run to lead off the second. Maria Gabriele followed with a walk, took second on a sac bunt, then scored when Avianna Paterson singled into right field, giving Niagara a 2-1 lead.
  • Trailing by two runs entering the fourth inning, Julia Thompson entered the game to relieve Riley Crum in the circle. Thompson retired the side using just 10 pitches to bring Niagara back to the plate.
 
Stats Spotlight
  • Avianna Peterson went a perfect 3-3 from the batter's box, adding one RBI in the process.
  • Jenna Patterson started and pitched 1.0 innings, allowing one run (unearned) on two hits.
 
On Deck
  • Niagara will take to the field for a doubleheader tomorrow against Army West Point. The Purple Eagles and Black Knights will start things off at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Florida with a 12 p.m. first pitch.
