Marquette Takes Down Women’s Lacrosse

 
MILWAUKEE – The Niagara women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-6 setback on the road at Marquette on Sunday afternoon.
 
Game Recap
  • After the Purple Eagles fell behind 5-0, Niagara made a goaltending change and brought Michelle Messenger in to cover the crease. Messenger made an immediate impact, with a quick save on the Golden Eagles' ensuing possession.
  • Jenna Brill got the Purple Eagles on the board 20:06 into the first half. With the ball in her stick, she wove through the Marquette defense and bounced a shot low and in to make it an 8-1 game.
  • Shea Swartwout responded to Marquette's first goal of the second half with one of her own. Less than two minutes in, the senior captain scored to pull Niagara to within 10-2.
  • Swartwout scored three times in a six-minute stretch to make it a 16-5 game. She got her hat trick with five minutes left, then converted on a free position attempt with three minutes to play.
  • Mara Hathaway added to the score and made it 16-6 with 1:24 left in the game.

Defensive Spotlight
  • Jess Foley's three ground balls were a team-high. Foley also caused one turnover.
  • In 45:15, Messenger made 12 saves on 23 shots against.
