HAMDEN, Conn. – The Purple Eagles fell to Quinnipiac, 71-61, in their first matchup with the Bobcats this season on Saturday.

Game Recap
First Quarter
  • The Bobcats took a 4-0 lead to open the game, but two free throws from Jai Moore and a bucket from Emerald Ekpiteta tied things up, 4-4. However, Quinnipiac went on a 12-0 run, taking a 16-4 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • Angel Parker added four points in the remainder of the quarter and Niagara trailed the Bobcats, 21-9, going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Six points from Valentina Pepic and a triple from Maggie McIntyre left NU trailing, 31-18, with five minutes to go in the first half.
  • A 3-pointer from Moore and five points from Parker made up an 8-0 run for the Purple Eagles and left Niagara down by just six points, 32-26, with a little over two and a half minutes left in the quarter.
  • At the half, the Purple Eagles trailed the Bobcats by 10, 38-28.
Third Quarter
  • The Bobcats went on a 7-0 run to open the third quarter, but Niagara answered with an 8-0 run, including four more points from Pepic, and trailed, 45-36, with a little over four minutes to go in the quarter.
  • McIntyre hit her second trey of the game, leaving NU down by just nine points, 48-39, with about three and a half minutes to go, but Quinnipiac maintained control and led Niagara, 56-41, going into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Four points from Adia Brisker and four combined points from Moore and Pepic left NU down by just 11, 60-49, with over six minutes left to play.
  • Brisker added five straight points, but the Bobcats maintained the lead, 66-54.
  • Brisker, Moore and Jordan Edwards combined for seven more points in the quarter as Niagara was defeated by Quinnipiac, 71-61.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Pepic led the Purple Eagles in scoring with a career-high 12 points.
  • Ekpiteta brought down a team-high 12 rebounds.
  • Moore added 11 points and Brisker added 10.
  • Parker led the team in steals with five.
  • Edwards and Morgan Baughman both had a team-best three assists.

  • The Purple Eagles host Monmouth on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7:00 p.m. for their annual Play4Kay game and will celebrate Senior Day against Manhattan on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1:00 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN3.
