Niagara Univ., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles dropped a one-goal game, 5-4, to the RIT Tigers on Tuesday.
Game Recap
1st Period
• It took under one minute for the Purple Eagles to find the back of the net as
Ryan Cox and
Luke Edgerton found
Carter Randklev out on the right circle for the score. The tally marked Randklev's second goal of the season, while Edgerton and Cox recorded their first helpers of the year.
• RIT scored twice in two minutes to take a 2-1 lead over the Purple Eagles. The second goal was achieved during a 4-on-4 situation, as both teams were serving two-minute minor penalties.

Josef Mysak nearly tied the game at two-all before the media timeout. However, his shot attempt was blocked by an RIT defender.
• Niagara had another scoring opportunity later in the period, as they had the 3-on-5 player advantage, but they were unable to convert.
• At the end of the first, Niagara led RIT in shots (23-9), shots on goal (15-7), faceoff wins (17-14) and power-play opportunities (3-1).
2nd Period
• The Tigers scored first in the second period, a breakaway goal by Kobe Walker, giving the visitors a 3-1 advantage.
• After a lengthy review, RIT's fourth goal was overturned and the score remained 3-1 with 15:02 remaining in the period.

Chad Veltri relieved starting goalie
Brian Wilson at the 10:12 mark of the frame. He immediately made two saves before allowing the Tigers to slip one by at the 11:43 mark during a 3-on-5 power play.
• The Purple Eagles cut the Tigers' lead in half, 4-2, with their first power-play goal of the season. Defenseman
Jared Brandt scored the goal, while
Ryan Naumovski and
Chris Harpur got credit for the assists.
• Niagara responded with its second goal of the period when freshman
Christian Gorscak scored his first career goal to cut RIT's lead to three, two, 5-3. Gorscak was assisted by
Walker Sommer and
Croix Evingson.
• After 40 minutes of action, Niagara held maintained its advantage in shots (34-23), shots on goal (24-21) and faceoff wins (32-38).
3rd Period
• A little under three minutes into the period, and with less than one minute left on a Niagara power play,
Jack Billings and Naumovski found
Ludwig Stenlund on the right circle for the goal. The goal, which was Stenlund's third of the season, pulled the Purple and White within one, 5-4.
• The Purple Eagles nearly tied the game when RIT turned it over in the neutral zone, giving Billings a breakaway shot attempt that was then thwarted by RIT's goalie. The play also ran out the clock on the RIT power play, giving NU its fifth penalty kill of the night.
• Despite pulling the goalie with 1:50 remaining, Niagara failed to get the equalizer and fell to the visiting RIT Tigers, 5-4.
Inside the Numbers
• NU finished the contest with the advantage in shots (40-32) and shots on goal (31-27).
• Sommer tied his career-long point streak at three games with his assist in the second period.
• Niagara scored twice on the power play, ending its 0-for-15 stretch to begin the season.
• With eight penalty kills today, the Purple Eagles improve their season average to .814 (22-for-27).
