RIVERDALE, N.Y – The Purple Eagles were narrowly defeated by the Manhattan Jaspers, 68-65, on Saturday afternoon.

Game Recap
First Quarter
  • The first quarter was a back and forth between the Purple Eagles and the Jaspers and the teams were tied, 6-6, with a little over five minutes to play in the quarter.
  • Threes from Morgan Baughman and Ally Haar put the Purple Eagles in the lead, 12-11, but the Jaspers led going into halftime, 15-12.
Second Quarter
  • The Jaspers went on a 5-0 run to open the second quarter, but Niagara was undaunted, going on a 15-0 run which included a 3-point play from Adia Brisker, six points from both Sydney Faulcon and Baughman and a triple from Maggie McIntyre to give Niagara a 27-20 lead over Manhattan.
  • Baughman sank her third three of the game with a little over two and a half minutes to go in the half to keep Niagara in the lead, 30-25.
  • Another bucket from Baughman as time expired in the second quarter gave the Purple Eagles a 34-28 lead over the Jaspers heading into halftime.
Third Quarter
  • Buckets from Brisker, McIntyre, Emerald Ekpiteta and Dagny Davidsdottir kept Niagara in the lead, 42-38, but the Jaspers knotted the score at 42 apiece with a little under three minutes left in the quarter.
  • With about 30 seconds left, Manhattan took a 45-44 lead over the Purple Eagles and the Jaspers were ahead, 47-44, going into the final 10 minutes of play.
Fourth Quarter
  • Four points from Ekpiteta and 3-pointers from McIntyre and Baughman left Niagara trailing by just two points, 56-54, with about five and a half minutes left in the game.
  • Baughman made her fifth trey of the game with a little over three and a half minutes to go to keep Niagara within striking distance of the Jaspers, 60-57.
  • Jai Moore scored eight straight points for the Purple Eagles to close out the fourth quarter, but it was not enough, as Niagara narrowly fell to Manhattan, 68-65.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Baughman led the Purple Eagles in scoring with a career-high 19 points. She scored 13 points in the first half, tying her previous career-high. Baughman also made a career-best five 3-pointers.
  • Ekpiteta and Baughman led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds each. McIntyre added seven boards.
  • Moore added 10 points for the Purple Eagles.
  • Angel Parker had a team-high and career-high five assists and three steals.

Up Next
  • The Purple Eagles return to the Gallagher Center next week, hosting Siena on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11:00 a.m. for Kids' Day and Marist on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1:00 p.m. The game with Siena will air on ESPN+ and the matchup with the Red Foxes will be broadcasted on ESPN3.
