NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Senior James Towns became the newest member of the 1,000-point club on Friday night as the Purple Eagles were defeated by the Marist Red Foxes, 67-48.

Game Summary
The Purple Eagles never led against the Red Foxes in the 50th all-time meeting between the programs.
 
The Red Foxes led 16-5 after 10 minutes of play, making 6 of 12 shots while NU went 1-for-6. The Purple Eagles finished the first half making only 5 of 19 shots. After Niagara trimmed the lead to 24-17 with four minutes remaining in the half, Marist closed the half on a 9-0 run to take a 33-17 lead into the break.
 
Marist started the second half cold, missing five straight shots, as the Purple Eagles cut the lead to 33-22 with 15:51 left. The Red Foxes scored their first points of the half with a 3-pointer at the 15:29 mark as part of a string of three straight 3-pointers.
 
Trailing 44-24 with 12 minutes left, the Purple Eagles went on a 9-1 run capped by a Steven Levnaic 3-pointer with 8:55 on the clock. The Red Foxes slowed the run on their next possession with a 3-pointer by Matthew Herasme as they outscored NU 9-5 over the next 2:38.
 
James Towns scored his 1,000th career point at the free-throw line. He made a pair of free throws, with the second free throw becoming his 1,000th career point with 5:16 left in the game with Niagara trailing 54-40.
