Women’s Soccer Held To Scoreless Draw At Cleveland State

CLEVELAND – The Niagara University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw at Cleveland State on Thursday night.

SYNOPSIS
It was an evenly contested game between two evenly matched teams. Even though there were no goals, the game provided plenty of action.

The first 25 minutes of the game were controlled by the Purple Eagles, but the Vikings had the better scoring chances in the final 15 minutes of the half. CSU's momentum continued into the early part of the second half, before Niagara took over in the final 20 minutes of the second half.  
 
In the overtime periods, both teams had a few scoring opportunities that were turned away by smart goalkeeping.

MOMENTS
  • 1' – Bayley Sullivan crossed into the box found Kelsey Araujo's knee and her attempt goes over the net.  
  • 14' – Veda Hensel's long range effort rattled the crossbar and the follow up by Annie Ibey sailed over the bar.  
  • 26' – Araujo's dummy and beat her marker to the byline. She played a cross to Annie Ibey whose shot missed high.
  • 27' – Sabrina Locas made a save on a CSU counter attack.  
  • 52' – Hensel stopped a goal scoring opportunity by the Vikings by heading the ball off the line.
  • 70' – Locas made a save.
  • 72' – Hensel dropped a perfectly weighted long ball to release Araujo, but her shot sailed high
  • 76' – Niagara's best scoring chance of the game. Selena Mangoni curled a low shot outside of the box to force a save and Hadley Bucken's rebound was saved.  
  • 78' – Hailey Bicknell forced a saved with a shot on goal.  
  • 92' – Ida Miceli's attempt in the box went high
  • 106' – Miceli dribbled past a pair of defenders, but her shot in the box is saved.  

EAGLE'S EYE ON…
  • Sabrina Locas made five saves en route to her third shutout of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Niagara played in its first overtime game of the season and its first scoreless tie since against Siena on September 26, 2018.
  • NU was shutout for the first time this season.
