AKRON, Ohio – The Niagara Purple Eagles started their three-game road swing in Akron on Thursday where they were nipped, 2-1.

SYNOPSIS
The Purple Eagles controlled play for majority of the game and outshot the host, but Akron made the most of its fortuitous chances to come out with the win. Sophomore striker Annie Ibey found the back of the net for the second straight contest to tie the match at 1-1 in the 48th minute; Ibey now has 12 goals in 13 career games. The Zips' game-winning goal came in the 66th minute on a miss hit cross.

MOMENTS
  • 18' - Akron took advantage of a turnover by the Niagara backline defense and earned a penalty kick after a collision in the box with Sabrina Locas. Akron's Ashley Amato converted the spot kick.
  • 32' – Mackenzie Mix struck a free kick over the bar.
  • 48' – Three minutes into the half the Purple Eagles tied the match. Ida Miceli chased down the ball on the left side and proceeded to beat her maker to the byline. Her pass found IBey inside of the 18 and she slotted her shot to the far post to beat the keeper.  
  • 62' – Annie Ibey stole the ball from the Akron keeper in the box, but unable to get off a shot.
  • 66' – Akron's Aislinn Meany scored on a miss hit cross which turned out to be the winner.
  • 90' – Niagara had a corner kick in the final minute, but it did not result in a scoring opportunity.

EAGLE'S EYE ON…
  • Annie Ibey had one goal and a game-high five shots, including two on target, in 78 minutes.  
  • Ida Miceli picked up her first assist on the season.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Purple Eagles outshot the Zips, 12-7, in the game including 6-2 in first half.  
  • Annie Ibey has scored a goal in four of the last five games dating back to last season.
  • Niagara suffered its first loss to Akron in six all-time meetings (4-1-1).
