Granieri Named Mental Health Counselor For Athletics

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara University Director of Athletics Simon Gray has named Michelle Granieri as the mental health counselor for the department of athletics.
 
"I am thankful for the collaboration between our department and the University's Student Health and Wellness program," Gray said. "The welfare of our student-athletes is a paramount concern and having this position will directly impact the lives of our students on a daily basis, and will also provide them skills for a lifetime of wellness."
 
Granieri is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State and has experience working with adolescents and adults in the behavioral health field. She utilizes different theoretical approaches to her clinical work, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused Techniques and Motivational Interviewing. Granieri has previously worked at Horizon Health Services as a senior counselor and Buffalo Centre for the Treatment of Eating Disorders as a primary therapist. She has experience with individual, group and family counseling.
 
"I am thrilled to become embedded into the Athletics Department at Niagara University and to bring mental health services and programming to the student-athlete population," Granieri said. "I understand the importance of addressing the challenges that many young adults face while managing various responsibilities during their college years. I will strive to become an additional team member for our student-athletes to provide support, education and resources in order to foster healthy well-being."
 
Granieri received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Buffalo State College and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Canisius College.
