Zips Take Two From Purple Eagles

 
NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara softball team dropped both ends of its midweek meeting against Akron on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Akron 1, Niagara 0
  • In the top of fourth inning, starting pitcher Karsen Cotton recorded a 1-2-3 inning by inducing two strikeouts and closing the frame with a swinging strikeout.
  • Cotton went 5.0 innings, allowing just one run on five hits to go along with three strikeouts.
  • Jerri Ann Orfano got the team's lone hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh. Kendall Watkins was the other Purple Eagle to reach first, doing so after being hit by a pitch.
 
Akron 4, Niagara 0
  • Watkins got two hits in three at-bats to lead the team at the dish. Heather Haberman also recorded a hit of her own.
  • Jennifer Szilagyi got the start after closing out game one. She threw 4.0 innings that saw her give up four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk. She also notched four strikeouts.
  • Sierra Bertrand entered in relief, allowing just one hit and two walks to go with three strikeouts.
 
On Deck
  • Niagara is off from conference competition this weekend. They will return to the diamond on Thursday, April 25 when they travel to Albany to take on the Great Danes in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
