Crump Records Hat Trick Against Eighth-Ranked Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Senior attack Caroline Crump accounted for three goals for the Niagara women's lacrosse team in their Monday contest against No. 8 Michigan. Crump netted her hat trick in less than 20 minutes, but the Purple Eagles ultimately fell, 16-5, to the Wolverines.

Game Recap
  • Hailey D'Hont put Niagara on the board first by converting a free position shot with 1:44 left in the first half.
  • Crump scored her first goal of the evening and her 21st of the year just 53 seconds into the second half.
  • After the Wolverines were carded and put a man down, Rachel MacCheyne was fouled in front of the Michigan net and scored the third Niagara goal on the free position attempt.
  • Crump scored again with 11:16 left on the clock, then again 51 seconds later to notch her hat trick, with her third goal being assisted by Shea Swartwout.

Milestones Met
  • MacCheyne passed Mary Cutia ('00) to become Niagara's all-time leading points-getter (203).
  • Crump's first goal gave her sole possession of third place in terms of scoring in program history and breaking the tie she held with Megan McNerney (128).
  • MacCheyne's seven draw controls also gave her the third-most successful season ever in that category, surpassing Alexandra Higgins' 2018 total of 96.

Coach's Corner
  • Head coach Wendy Stone: "We battled today for 60 minutes against one of the best teams in the country. We did some great things on both ends of the field, and we could not be more proud of the effort across the board."

Up Next
  • Niagara returns to Monteagle Ridge for a Saturday showdown with Fairfield at noon. The game will also feature a fundraising effort to support Maureen's Hope Foundation. Headquartered in Baldwinsville, New York, Maureen's Hope strives to offer practical support and assistance to people facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis or other life altering disease.
