MacCheyne Nets Seventh Hat Trick As Women’s Lacrosse Upended by UMass

 
DeLAND, Fla. – Finishing out a four-game road trek, the Niagara University women's lacrosse team was bested by the UMass Minutewomen, 25-11, on Wednesday afternoon at Stetson University. Senior co-captain Rachel MacCheyne accounted for five goals. MacCheyne has now recorded a hat trick in each of the team's first seven games this season and has four five-goal outings on the year.
 
Game Recap
  • After UMass shot out to a quick 3-0 advantage, MacCheyne and Caroline Crump cut into the lead with a pair of free position goals that made it 3-2.
  • Five minutes after her first, MacCheyne contributed her second score of the game to make it 5-3.
  • Alexis Morales and MacCheyne scored less than 90 seconds apart nearing the midway mark of the first half to cut the team's four-goal deficit back to two. Morales provided the assist on MacCheyne's hat-trick strike.
  • After eight unanswered Minutewomen tallies, Morales added her second of the day – from Crump – with 2:10 to play before halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, Crump, Audrey Fithall, Jenna Brill, and MacCheyne each slotted home goals to make it a 15-10 game.
  • MacCheyne closed out the scoring for Niagara with 2:50 left in the second half, her fifth of the game that made it 24-11.
