Raheem Solomon paced the Purple Eagles with 16 points as NU dropped a 79-58 decision to the Marist Red Foxes on Friday night.
Game Summary
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field and from the 3-point line in the first half, but the Red Foxes' eight 3-pointers in the opening stanza helped build a double-digit halftime lead.
Niagara sprinted to a 4-0 lead after baskets by
Dominic Robb and
Marvin Prochet. The Red Foxes responded with eight straight points as part of a 12-2 spurt. Niagara regained the lead behind a 12-5 run, capped by a
Raheem Solomon 3-pointer for an 18-17 advantage with 9:36 left. From there, Marist outscored the Purple Eagles 19-5, including making four 3-pointers, in the next six minutes. The Red Foxes went into the break leading 41-30.
After the Red Foxes opened the second half on a 6-0 spurt, the Purple Eagles answered with a 12-4 run, with five different Purple Eagles scoring, to cut the lead to 50-42 with 14:29 remaining. A 3-point play by
Marvin Prochet cut Marist's lead to 55-46 before the Red Foxes reeled off nine straight points for a 64-46 lead with eight minutes left. Marist's hot shooting continued as the Purple Eagles saw Marist's lead balloon to 24 points in the final minutes.
Eagle's Eye On…
- Raheem Solomon led NU in scoring for the first time in his career as he finished with 16 points, including going 4-for-8 from the 3-point line.
- Marvin Prochet was in double figures for the 20th time in 21 games with 11 points in 29 minutes. Prochet also grabbed five rebounds.
- James Towns scored 11 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the field and dished out a team-high three assists.
- Greg King led Niagara in rebounding with six.
