BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles dropped a one-point Battle of the Bridge matchup, 52-51, to Canisius on Wednesday to split the season series with the Griffs.

Game Recap
  • It was low-scoring opening quarter for the Purple Eagles and the Griffs. Four points from Jai Moore gave NU the early 4-0 lead but Canisius answered with an 8-0 run to take an 8-4 lead. A bucket from Emerald Ekpiteta and one from Moore tied the score, 8-8. Canisius led narrowly, 12-8, at the end of the first quarter.
  • Five points from Moore early in the second quarter left NU trailing by just three points, 16-13. A 7-0 run from the Purple Eagles, including five points from Moore and two from Kharysma Bryant, put Niagara back in the lead, 17-16, with just over five minutes to play in the first half. Moore's second 3-pointer of the quarter kept NU in the lead, 20-18, and a bucket from Dagny Davidsodttir kept Niagara ahead by two, 22-20, going into halftime.
  • The Griffs opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 26-22 lead over Niagara but NU quickly answered and trailed by only one point, 26-25, with over seven minutes to play in the quarter. Canisius, however, went on another 6-0 run to take a 32-25 lead over NU with 5:30 left. Five more points from Moore, including her third triple of the game, and a bucket from Valentin Pepic left Niagara within two points of Griffs, 34-32. A 3-pointer from Maggie McIntyre put NU ahead by one, 35-34, but the Griffs closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run and led Niagara, 39-35, going into the fourth quarter.
  • With a little over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, a triple from McIntyre tied things up, 45-45. Six straight points from Moore gave Niagara a one-point lead, 51-50, with about 45 seconds left in the game. Canisius scored with 17 seconds left to take the lead, 52-51. The Purple Eagles were not able to capitalize on their last possession and the Griffs came away with the victory.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Moore led all scorers with 28 points. She also added three rebounds and three assists.
  • Adila Gathers led the Purple Eagles in rebounds with 10. She also added three assists.
  • Bryant led the team in steals with three and Davidsdottir had a team-high two blocks.

  • For the second straight season, the Purple Eagles close out the regular season at Marist. Niagara will take on the Red Foxes on Saturday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. and the game will air live on ESPN3.
