Purple Eagles Fall To Rider On Senior Day

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Despite Jai Moore's 30 points, the Purple Eagles fell to the Rider Broncs on Senior Day, 79-64.  

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles started the game with a 6-0 run thanks to back-to-back three-pointers from Maggie McIntyre and Moore. The Purple Eagles never trailed in the first quarter and 10 points from Moore helped NU to a 16-14 lead.
  • In the second quarter, Niagara and Rider kept things close. Six different Purple Eagles scored in the quarter and Niagara scored eight points both off turnovers and eight points in the paint. Trailing by four with a minute to go in the half, Niagara was able to score four quick points to tie the score at 32, but a Rider three-pointer beat the buzzer to give the Broncs a three-point lead going into halftime, 35-32.
  • Halfway through the third quarter, the Purple Eagles found themselves trailing by eight, 42-34. The Purple Eagles finished the quarter strong, however, with eight points in the last 3:30, capped off by a Moore lay-up to cut the Rider lead down to four, 49-45, with one quarter to go.
  • The Broncs began to pull away in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to double digits early in the final frame. While the Purple Eagles cut the lead to six, 68-62, with 90 seconds to go, Rider finished the game on an 11-2 run to earn the 79-64 victory.  

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Moore led all scorers with 30 points. It is the third game this season Moore has scored 30 or more points. She made 11 field goals, tying her career-high.
  • Emerald Ekpiteta led the team in both rebounds with eight and in steals with two. She also added eight points for the Purple Eagles.
  • Jordan Edwards led the team in assists with four.
  • It was the final home game for two Purple Eagles; Kharysma Bryant and Adila Gathers. In their final game in the Gallagher Center, Bryant finished with four points and six rebounds, while Gathers had seven points, two rebounds and two assists.

 Up Next 
  • Niagara eyes a season sweep against crosstown rival Canisius on Feb. 27. The matchup, which is slated to start at 5:00 p.m., will be air live on ESPN3.
