Men's Hockey Draws With Canisius On Senior Day

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Senior Johnny Curran scored twice to lead the Niagara men's hockey team's offense in a 3-3 tie with Canisius on Saturday night in Dwyer Arena. The draw added one more point to the team's conference count to hold onto seventh place in the Atlantic Hockey standings.

Game Recap
  • After Canisius opened the scoring, the power play pair of Noah Delmas and Ludwig Stenlund combined yet again to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Senior leaders Johnny Curran and Nick Farmer put the Purple Eagles on top, 2-1, just three minutes later.
  • Six minutes into the second, Dylan Mills entered the offensive zone with Eric Cooley. Cooley dragged the puck around a Canisius defender to open up a shooting lane but fired just wide.
  • 13:44 into the period, Niagara found itself on the power play. After Curran won the faceoff to the left of the goaltender, the team set itself up well on the perimeter and a pass from Niko Kovachis to Zac Herrman made its way back to Curran on the opposite side of the ice, who proceeded to bury the puck for his second of the game.
  • The Griffs tied the game up with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, sending the game to overtime for the second straight night.
  • In the extra frame, the Mucci-Sokay-Hayes line teamed up to provide Niagara's best chance to steal the win after Harpur carried the puck in deep to initiate the play.

Beyond The Boxscore
  • On Niagara's first goal of the game, Delmas assisted Stenlund for the seventh time on the power play this season. Delmas has provided the primary assist on 78 percent of Stenlund's nine power play goals.
  • Stenlund's nine power play goals rank tied for third nationally and lead all freshmen.
  • Curran had his first multi-goal game since October 20, 2017 against RPI. It was just the fourth such occurrence of his career.
