WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles pushed the five-time defending MAAC champions to the brink before falling, 4-3, in their conference opener on Saturday.

Match Summary
  • With the match tied at 2-2, it came down to the final three singles matches which all went three sets.
  • Niagara dominated doubles to win the point and take a 1-0 lead.
  • The No. 2 team of Shannon Wong and Andreea Peteu won 6-2 to win the first set.
  • Niagara's No. 3 duo – Olga Donchu and Ali Hutchinson – clipped their opponent to clinch the point.
  • The top team of Chhinda Som and Megan Gamble won 6-3 to complete the sweep.
  • The Bobcats won in six and one singles to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Andreea Peteu defeated Kamilla Nella in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to tie the match at 2-2.
  • In two singles, Shannon Wong won the first set, 6-3, before falling 6-4 and 6-2.
  • Megan Gamble won her first set, 6-3, but lost her second 6-2. She was edged in the third set, 6-4, as Quinnipiac clinched the match.
  • Shortly after the conclusion of Gamble's match, Olga Donchu outlasted Payton Bradley in four singles, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (2).
