Purple Eagles Drop Battle With The Saints

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles were defeated by the Siena Saints, 67-61, on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • The Saints went on an 8-0 run early in the first quarter to take an 8-1 lead over the Purple Eagles. Niagara bounced back quickly with a 5-0 run and trailed the Saints by only three points, 11-8, with about two and a half minutes left in the quarter. A 3-pointer from Maggie McIntyre cut Siena's lead, 13-11, which was the score heading into the second quarter.
  • With a little under six minutes remaining in the second quarter, McIntyre sank another triple to keep the Purple Eagles within two points of the Saints, 20-18. A bucket from Jai Moore knotted the score, 20-20. Back-to-back treys from Dagny Davidsdottir and McIntyre put the Purple Eagles in the lead, 26-24. The Saints, however, went on an 8-0 run to close out the quarter and led Niagara, 32-26, going into halftime.
  • Moore added eight points for the Purple Eagles in the third quarter. Niagara never trailed the Saints by more than five points in the quarter, and the Purple Eagles went into the final 10 minutes of play trailing by just three points, 47-44.
  • McIntyre sank another triple to open the fourth quarter, tying the score, 47-47. With over eight minutes left to play, Adila Gathers converted a 3-point play to put Niagara in the lead, 50-49. The Saints quickly reclaimed the lead but a fifth 3-pointer from McIntyre once again put the Purple Eagles down by only two points, 63-61. The Saints, however, held on to win the game, 67-61.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • McIntyre led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 19 points. She also recorded a career-high and team-high six steals.
  • Gathers led the team in rebounding with 10 boards.
  • Moore added 11 points for Niagara and Emerald Ekpiteta had nine rebounds.

  • The Purple Eagles return to the Gallagher Center for their annual Play4Kay Game on Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. against the Monmouth Hawks. Niagara will host Rider for Senior Day on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
