Moore Drops 30 Points In Purple Eagles' Routing Of Crosstown Rival Canisius

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Never trailing from beginning to end, the Niagara Purple Eagles women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance at home on Wednesday night to down crosstown rival Canisius, 74-52.  The win marked the first time Niagara has defeated Canisius in the regular season since the 2013-14 season.

Game Recap
  • Niagara took control of the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 12-2 lead nearly five minutes into the first quarter. The Purple Eagles, who led for all but the first 16 seconds of the opening quarter, took a 15-9 lead into the second quarter.
  • The second quarter featured Niagara continuing its strong offensive performance, with Valentina Pepic, Kharysma Bryant and Jai Moore combining for 16 of Niagara's 20 points in the quarter. Niagara was also able to muster 12 points in the paint, before Moore hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give the Purple Eagles a 10-point lead at the half, 35-25.
  • The Purple Eagles were hot coming out of the half, outscoring the Golden Griffins by a 27-13 margin in the third quarter. Moore had 12 of her game-high 30 points in the quarter, nine of which came off three three-pointers. Bryant added six points for the Purple Eagles, extending the Niagara lead to 24 heading into the fourth quarter, 62-38.
  • Four different Purple Eagles scored in the fourth quarter to help close out the contest. Niagara was able to continue its lockdown performance against Canisius, holding the Golden Griffins to just 14 points in the final quarter, helping lead the team to its first win against its crosstown rival in the teams' last 10 regular season contests. 

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Moore had a game-high 30 points, including a career-high seven three-pointers, to finish just one point shy of tying her career-best mark of 31 she set earlier this season against Colgate on Dec. 31. She also led the team in steals with four, while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists.
  • Adila Gathers led the team in both rebounds and blocks with nine and two, respectively. Gathers also recorded 10 points and three assists for Niagara.
  • Maggie McIntyre recorded a team-high seven assists.
  • Bryant tied her season-high in points with 14, while also bringing down five rebounds.
  • Pepic added eight points for the Purple Eagles. She has now recorded at least eight points in three of the last five games.
