SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In his return to the Carrier Dome, head coach
Greg Paulus and the Purple Eagles fell to the Orange, 71-57.
Game Summary
The Orange went on a 10-0 run to open the game, but buckets from five different Purple Eagles brought NU within 12 points of Syracuse, 26-14, with over eight minutes to go in the first half.
A bucket from
Greg Kuakumensah on a sick feed from
Shandon Brown brought Niagara within 10, 26-16, capping a 6-0 run for the Purple Eagles.
Triples from
Raheem Solomon and
Nick MacDonald kept Niagara within 12, 34-22, with a little over three and a half minutes to go in the first half.
Brown, Kuakumensah and
Marcus Hammond all added two more points in the remainder of the half and the Purple Eagles trailed the Orange, 41-28, going into halftime.
With a little over 15 and a half minutes to go in the second half, MacDonald sank another three, putting NU within 16 points of the Orange, 51-35.
Two free throws from
James Towns, a bucket from Hammond, a dunk from Kuakumensah and another triple from MacDonald, NU trailed Syracuse by just 13 points, 57-44.
Justin Roberts scored eight straight points, including two 3-pointers, to keep Niagara within 13 points of the Orange, 66-53.
Towns added the final three points for NU as the Purple Eagles fell to Syracuse, 71-57.
