NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Despite putting up a strong fight, the Purple Eagles fell to Big 4 rival Buffalo, 81-67, on Saturday in their home opener.

Game Recap
  • Jai Moore opened scoring for the Purple Eagles in the first quarter, sinking a three with just under nine minutes to go to put Niagara down by one, 4-3. Adia Brisker added five points in the quarter, while Dagny Davidsdottir and Emerald Ekpiteta added two points apiece, to leave Niagara trailing by just eight, 20-12, going into the second quarter.
  • The Bulls began to pull away in the second quarter, taking a 30-15 lead over NU, but a bucket from Davidsdottir and a 3-pointer from Maggie McIntyre kept Niagara within 10, 30-20. Ekpiteta added seven more points in the second, but the Purple Eagles trailed, 37-28, going into halftime.
  • Five points from Moore and another four from Ekpiteta put Niagara down by just seven points, 44-37, with 5:46 to go in the third quarter. Moore sank her third trey of the game with a little over 10 second remaining in the third quarter, but the Purple Eagles trailed the Bulls, 57-45, at the end of the quarter.
  • A bucket from Jordan Edwards and three points from Brisker brought NU back within nine points of Buffalo, 59-50. With a little under five minutes remaining in the game, Davidsdottir scored five straight points, putting the score at 70-59, with the Bulls still in the lead. Buffalo held onto its lead for the remainder of the game and won by a final score of 81-67.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Ekpiteta recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Both were team-highs.
  • Davidsdottir added a career-high 13 points, while Brisker had a career-high 12 points. Moore also had 12 points for the Purple Eagles.
  • Brisker led the team in assists with six, her career-high.
  • McIntyre had a team-best two steals and also dished out five assists.
  • Niagara scored 38 points in the paint, 17 points off of turnovers and 20 second-chance points.

Up Next
  • The Purple Eagles take on Rutgers on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6:00 p.m. in Piscataway, New Jersey. It will be NU's first matchup with the Scarlet Knights since 1995.
