Manhattan Bounces Purple Eagles With Late Goal

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – After 85 minutes of scoreless play, the Manhattan Jaspers struck late to defeat the Niagara men's soccer team, 1-0. The loss prevents the Purple Eagles from qualifying for the MAAC Tournament.

Match Moments
  • 5' – After Mackenzie Roach had his shot blocked – the first shot of the game for either team – Niagara earned a corner kick. After the kick was tapped out of the box, Manhattan committed a foul outside the box, allowing Luca Pacheco to take a free kick from 20 yards out that ended up sailing wide left.
  • 10' – Minutes later, Pacheco had a second chance to open the scoring but headed it over the bar.
  • 46' – Niagara had the first quality chance of the second half just seconds in. Dylan Avila put a low ball on net but had it saved by the Manhattan keeper.
  • 76' – After a header by Jacob Myer went high, the Purple Eagles won a free kick from 25 yards out when Manhattan fouled and was carded. Matthew Krucko-Moeller took the set piece but sailed the shot over the net.
  • 80' – Josh Savoni made his best save of the game with the Jaspers on the doorstep. The offense curled a pass across the crease and set up Joseph Koroma with a one-touch shot, but Savoni recovered and got into position to get a paw on the ball and knock it away.
