James Towns led all scorers with a season-high 21 points as the Purple Eagles fell to the Bryant Bulldogs, 73-62, in their home opener on Monday night.
Game Summary
The Purple Eagles outscored the Bulldogs, 37-30, in the second half while also shooting over 40 percent from the field. However, Niagara was unable to recover from a 21-point first half deficit.
The Bulldogs, who entered the game leading the nation in 3-pointers made and attempted, connected on seven triples in the first half, including four 3-pointers by Adam Grant. Three of Bryant's seven first half 3-pointers came during a 19-5 run with the game tied at 11-11. The run, which lasted for over five minutes, propelled the Bulldogs to a 30-16 lead with eight minutes left in the half. The Bulldogs scored 11 straight points to build a 43-22 lead with 1:42 remaining. A
Steven Levnaic a 3-pointer capped the scoring in the half as NU trailed 43-25.
Niagara battled its way back into the game by starting the second half on a 10-2 run behind
James Towns' five points. Bryant, though, maintained its double-digit lead until the three-minute mark in the second half after a stepback 3-pointer by
Raheem Solomon cut the lead to 61-52. The nine-point deficit was the closest the Purple Eagles were able to trim down.
Eagle's Eye On…
- James Towns netted a season-high 21 points for his fourth career 20-point game. Towns also pulled down a career-high eight rebounds.
- Greg Kuakumensah collected his second career double-double with 10 points and team-high 10 rebounds to become the first Purple Eagle this season with double digit boards.
- Raheem Solomon scored a season-high 16 points to be in double figures for the third time this season. He also grabbed five rebounds.

- The Purple Eagles outscored Bryant, 44-26, in points in the paint.
- Niagara grabbed a season-high 35 rebounds and tied a season-high in steals with six.
