Saint Peter’s Tops Men’s Soccer On Senior Night

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Saint Peter's on its Senior Night. The Purple Eagles went down by two before they flipped the field and pressured late to try and climb back into the game.

Match Moments
  • 9' – After Saint Peter's struck early, Niagara's first chance came off the foot of Matthew Krucko-Moeller, but was rejected by the Peacocks' goalkeeper.
  • 45' – Niagara got three shots off inside the final seven minutes of the opening half, but none came closer than Rodrigo Almeida's last-second effort that dribbled just wide of the left side of the net.
  • 71' – The Purple Eagles won back-to-back corner kicks – their third and fourth of the half – but couldn't crack the Saint Peter's defense. Absalom Solorio-Villalpando got a shot off between attempts, but narrowly missed on the attempt.
  • 79' – Down by two goals, Dylan Avila cut the deficit in half with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. The Mississauga, Ontario native took a pass from Rodrigo Almeida and buried the shot to make it 2-1.
 Coach's Corner
  • Head coach Bill Boyle: "I am very proud of the effort the guys gave for these seniors. The possession was in our favor and we created te opportunities we wanted, but I have to credit how great Saint Peter's is on the counter. They are good at what they do and show why they're in position to win the MAAC."

Up Next
  • Niagara's season-defining stretch continues with a road date against Manhattan next Saturday, November 2. The Jaspers will be jockeying for playoff positioning, as they entered today trailing the sixth-place Purple Eagles by one point in the standings.
