Purple Eagles, Tigers Fight To Draw

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – An onslaught of action made for a frantic finish as the Niagara men's hockey team hosted RIT on Friday evening. The Purple Eagles (8-10-2, 7-5-2 AHA) held the lead three times but settled for a 4-4 tie with the Tigers (7-8-2, 5-6-2 AHA).

Game Recap
  • Luke Edgerton opened the scoring for Niagara on an odd-man rush with Ludwig Stenlund with 13 minutes elapsed in the first period. Stenlund came down the left wing and watched his shot bounce off Logan Drackett's pad and out to Edgerton, who buried the opportunity while Drackett scrambled to correct his position.
  • After RIT scored twice to carry a 2-1 lead deep into the second period, Niko Kovachis tied the game up on a one-time feed from Luke Edgerton that was nicked by Eric Cooley during delivery. Kovachis wasted no time, firing towards the net and slipping it through for his third of the year.
  • Stenlund gave Niagara the lead back just past the midway point of the third period when he joined a rush with Justin Kendall and slotted the puck home.
  • Though Niagara's lead was short-lived thanks to an RIT goal just minutes later, Edgerton found the back of the net for the second time thanks to helpers from Johnny Curran and Zac Herrmann.
  • After RIT equalized with 75 seconds remaining in regulation, Niagara dominated the overtime period. With less than five seconds before the game's end, the Purple Eagles forced a turnover in their own zone and gave the puck to a streaking Noah Delmas, who was stopped at the doorstep as time expired.

Beyond The Boxscore
  • Edgerton had arguably the best game of his young career, setting new game highs for goals (two) and points (three).
