NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Trying to continue their strong start in conference play, the Niagara Purple Eagles fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats at home Saturday afternoon, 3-0.
SYNOPSIS
Both teams came into today's contest with seven points through three MAAC games to share for the top spot in the conference. While Niagara was able to control play for much of the first half, it was Quinnipiac who was able to register the game's first goal and take the lead into the halftime. Halfway through the second half, the Bobcats scored two goals in just as many minutes. Despite having scoring opportunities, the Purple Eagles were unable to score as the Bobcats moved into sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
MOMENTS
- In the third minute, Kelsey Araujo drove towards the net and delivered a shot that was saved by Quinnipiac goalkeeper Olivia Myszewski. Araujo had another opportunity to score off the deflection, but the shot sailed high.
- The first goal of the afternoon came in the 17th minute when Quinnipiac's Madison Borowiec sent a shot on goal that Sabrina Locas saved but was unable to corral. Al Pelletier tapped the ball into the net to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead.
- Niagara was just inches away from tying the game in the 27th minute, when Bayley Sullivan took a shot off a free kick that hit off the crossbar.
- Coming out of the half, Quinnipiac struck early in the 61st minute, with Madison Borowiec delivering a header off the rebound to extend the Bobcats lead, 2-0.
- Just two minutes later, Quinnipiac landed a shot that Locas saved, but Ally Grunstein tap home the rebound over the line to give Quinnipiac a 3-0 lead.
- The Purple Eagles nearly scored in the 82nd minute when Araujo delivered a shot from the right side, but the ball went just wide.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The loss snaps Niagara's four-game winning streak to open their home schedule, their longest such streak dating back to the 1988 season.
- Niagara also had their longest unbeaten streak snapped dating back to the 2014 season. Purple Eagles have won their first two conference games for the first time since 2015. Niagara started MAAC play 4-0-0 that season.
- Quinnipiac's three goals scored are the most Niagara has allowed in its last six games.
- Araujo, who delivered four shots against the Bobcats, has now recorded at least four shots in her last five games for Niagara.
