Baseball Defeats Saint Peter's To Sweep Season Series

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Niagara baseball team defeated Saint Peter's, 8-5, on Sunday to sweep its season series with the Peacocks. Saint Peter's is the first conference opponent the Purple Eagles have swept this season.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles got off to a quick start, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a two RBI double from Dziados.
  • In the top of the third, Greg Cullen singled to score Gabriele and extend Niagara's lead, 3-0.
  • The Peacocks scored five times in the bottom of the fourth, taking their first lead of the game, 5-3.
  • In the top of the fifth, a sac fly from Peter Battaglia sent Trevor McCauley home and put NU down by only one run, 5-4.
  • The Purple Eagles took advantage of mistakes from the Peacocks and reclaimed their lead in the top of the sixth inning, 7-5, with scores from Joseph Tevlin, Julian Gallup and Gabriele.
  • Niagara added on one more run in the top of the ninth and held the Peacocks scoreless in the bottom of the inning, securing the 8-5 victory.

Inside the Numbers
  • Gabriele led the Purple Eagles with three hits.
  • Battaglia and Gabriele led the team in runs scored with two each and Battaglia had a team-high two doubles.
  • Dziados led Niagara with two RBIs.
  • Zachary Kolodziejski started on the mound, fanning four in 4.2 innings pitched.
  • Ben Erwin (4-2) earned the win. He struck out three and allowed only one hit in 4.1 innings pitched.
