Purple Eagles Upended By Yale

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Despite a strong first half, the Purple Eagles lacrosse team fell to the Yale Bulldogs, 14-7, on Tuesday.

Game Recap
  • Niagara opened the game with three unanswered goals in the first 4:38. Crump scored 2:23 into the game and MacCheyne doubled the lead 13 seconds later.
  • Crump scored her second goal of the game 4:38 into the game to give Niagara a 3-0 lead.
  • Yale got on the board with 23:42 remaining in the first half with a goal from Kiwi Comizio.
  • Crump recorded her hat-trick within the opening eight minutes, regaining the Purple Eagle's three goal lead at 4-1.
  • After Comizio cut Niagara's lead in half, Crump provided a stellar assist to Ford who scored to give Niagara a 5-2 lead with 14:13 remaining in the first half.
  • MacCheyne provided Niagara a 6-3 lead at the 23:44 mark in the half after Sam Higgins pulled a goal back for Yale.
  • Emily Granger scored Yale's final goal of the half with just over four minutes remaining to give Niagara a 6-4 lead at halftime.
  • Yale scored four unanswered goals to start the half and give them their first lead of the game, 7-6.
  • Molodetz tied the game at 7-7 for Niagara with 20:46 remaining in the half, scoring the team's only goal in the half.
  • Yale scored seven unanswered goals over the final 18 minutes of the game to put the game out of reach, 14-7. Madeleine Gramigna scored three of the Bulldogs' final seven goals.
 
Coach's Corner
  • "We played a great first half today, but need to finish plays for a full 60 minutes," said head coach Wendy Stone. "We battled and the defense came up with stops, but we did not convert on the offensive end of the field in the second half. We will work to be better next time out against Bryant."
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Crump's hat-trick pushed her season goal total to 20. She ranks second on the team in goals, assists (4), points (24) and shots (50).
  • MacCheyne extended her team-leading goal tally to 23 and her team-high point total to 31. She also leads the team in assists (8), shots (54) and draw controls (46).
  • Paul registered three ground balls and three caused turnovers against Yale, pushing her team-leading tally to 30 and 13, respectively.
  • DeVeau started for the Purple Eagles, logging 11 saves and 11 goals against. She also recorded four ground balls to give her nine on the season.
  • Yale held advantages over Niagara in total shots (39-28), shots on goal (26-16) and draw controls (16-6).The Purple Eagles were superior in saves (12-9) and ground balls (16-14).
