McIntyre Paces Purple Eagles In Victory Over Binghamton

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles earned a win over the Binghamton Bearcats on Wednesday, paced by a career-high performance from Maggie McIntyre.

Game Recap
  • The Bearcats dominated most of the first quarter and were up 15-8 going into the second quarter, but the Purple Eagles picked up momentum on offense in quarter two, leaving Binghamton stunned.
  • The Purple Eagles went on an 8-0 run to open the second quarter, including two straight 3-pointers from McIntyre, which gave Niagara the lead, 16-15. Claire Wanzer sank a trey with about seven minutes left in the quarter to keep NU in the lead, 19-17. McIntyre hit two more 3-pointers in the second quarter, tying her then-career-high with four total, and the Purple Eagles were ahead, 32-27, going into halftime.
  • Two more 3-pointers from McIntyre in the third quarter and six points from both Jai Moore and Kharysma Bryant kept Niagara in the lead, 59-53, going into the final quarter.
  • The Purple Eagles were ahead, 70-63, but the Bearcats went on a 7-0 run, tying things up, 70-70. A personal foul and a technical foul from Binghamton gave McIntyre and Moore each two shots from the charity stripe; they each sank both their shots. Four more free throws from McIntyre and one from Bryant iced Niagara's sixth straight win over Binghamton.

Coach's Corner
  • "Maggie is a special player," said head coach Jada Pierce. "Everybody doubted her and that, with her height, she couldn't play Division I basketball, so that is a kid that you root for every day. She gives you everything that she has all the time, she's a great team player and she's one of the most positive people you ever want to be around. She's a winner."

Inside the Numbers
  • McIntyre led the Purple Eagles with a career-high 24 points and a career-best six 3-pointers, which are tied for ninth-most in a single game in Niagara women's basketball history. She also made a career-high six free throws and six field goals.
  • Bryant, Moore and Emerald Ekpiteta all added 12 points for the Purple Eagles.
  • Bryant led the team in steals with five, which is a career-high.
  • Adila Gathers led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds and Ekpiteta recorded seven.
  • In the second half, the Purple Eagles shot 61 percent from the field, 60 percent from the 3-point line and 100 percent from the charity stripe.
