Purple Eagles Defeat Coppin State For Second Straight Home Victory

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's basketball team won a close game with Coppin State, 71-69, on Saturday afternoon.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles and the Eagles kept things close in the first quarter. Maggie McIntyre sank two 3-pointers and NU led Coppin State, 12-11. Four points from Jai Moore tied things up, 16-16, but the Eagles had the lead, 22-16, at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Purple Eagles went off in the second quarter, outscoring Coppin State 22-7. Niagara went on a 14-0 run, including two treys from Kharysma Bryant and 3-pointers from McIntyre and Dagny Davidsdottir. Niagara led the Eagles, 34-24, with a little under two minutes remaining in the first half. The Purple Eagles were ahead of Coppin State, 38-29, at the end of the second quarter.
  • Moore added 10 points for the Purple Eagles in the third quarter and Niagara maintained the lead, 59-51, going into the final quarter of play.
  • In the fourth quarter, Niagara had a 10-point lead, 67-57, with a little under two minutes remaining in the game, but a 10-run from the Eagles tied things up, 10-10. The tie was scored again, 69-69, with only 30 seconds remaining in the game but Adila Gathers scored the go-ahead bucket to ice NU's 71-69 victory.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Moore led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 18 points.
  • Bryant added 14 points, which is her season-high, and led the Purple Eagles in rebounding with nine rebounds, tying her career-high. Bryant also recorded a career-high six assists, sharing game-high honors with McIntyre.
  • McIntyre and Davidsdottir each added 11 points. Davidsdottir made five field goals, tying her career-high.
