MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – In their first all-time meeting, the Purple Eagles were defeated by the West Virginia Mountaineers, 84-32, on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • The Mountaineers dominated the first quarter, going on a 10-0 run to start the game. Emerald Ekpiteta scored NU's first points of the game with a bucket with six and a half minutes left in the quarter. The Mountaineers, however, went on a 27-1 run and led the Purple Eagles, 37-3, going into the second quarter.
  • The Purple Eagles quadrupled their points scored in the second quarter. Maggie McIntyre added five points for NU and Jai Moore had four points. Kharysma Bryant and Jordan Edwards also contributed in the second quarter. The Mountaineers, however, still had a commanding lead and were ahead of the Purple Eagles 52-15 at the end of the first half.
  • Moore opened scoring for the Purple Eagles in the third quarter and a 6-0 run from NU soon followed, cutting West Virginia's lead, 60-23. The Mountaineers turned it over seven times in the third quarter, which resulted in four steals for NU. West Virginia led Niagara. 67-25, at the end of the third quarter.
  • Edwards had four of Niagara's seven fourth quarter points, but the Purple Eagles were unable to overcome West Virginia's lead, falling to the Mountaineers, 84-32.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Moore led the Purple Eagles in scoring with eight points. Edwards added a career-high seven points.
  • Ekpiteta had a team-high five rebounds.
  • Edwards had a team-high four steals, which is a career-high.

  • The Purple Eagles host Colgate for a New Year's Eve doubleheader with the Niagara men's team on Dec. 31. The women will face the Raiders at 12:00 p.m. and the men will take on Albany at 3:30 p.m.
