Volleyball Looks To Extend Winning Streak Against Quinnipiac, Fairfield

After opening their home schedule with wins over Marist and Siena, the Niagara Purple Eagles will look to extend their seven-match win streak this weekend at the Gallagher Center against last year's MAAC Tournament finalists. Niagara will play Quinnipiac on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. before competing against defending champion Fairfield on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
 
Purple Points
  • The Purple Eagles opened up home play for the 2017 season last weekend in the Gallagher Center. After trailing 2-1 to Marist after three sets, Niagara won the final two sets to defeat the Red Foxes. Niagara then came away with a victory in straight sets to open the season 2-0 at home.  
  • With the pair of victories last weekend, Niagara extended its current winning streak to seven matches, its longest streak since 2011. The team is also 4-0 in the MAAC for the first time since the 2012 season.
  • The Purple Eagles currently sit first in the MAAC in opponent hitting percentage (.160), and digs per set (17.23).
  • Rylee Hunt, who has been a three-time MAAC Libero of the Week recipient, currently leads the team and the conference with 5.96 digs per set. Her 37 digs against Central Connecticut State and 36 against Rider currently rank first and second respectively in the MAAC for digs in a match this season.
  • During last week's matchup against Marist, Jada Carrol recorded eight total blocks, tying her for the second most blocks in a match this season.

  • Three Purple Eagles have come into their senior seasons eyeing program records and milestones
  • Alexis Gray is seven aces from tying Kari Honomichl ('12) as the career leader in aces.
  • Rylee Hunt is now second on the all-time digs list, trailing only Sam Morgan ('11).  
  • Nicole Matheis is now the seventh player in the history of the program to record 1,000 career kills. She now is currently sitting at 1,086 kills, only 42 away from passing Jessica Anderson ('95) for fifth on the all-time list.    
 
Hunt Among The Nation's Best
  • Rylee Hunt ranks in the top-10 in two NCAA active career categories.
  • Hunt is third in digs with 1,943 and fifth in digs per set with 4.92

Across The Net
Quinnipiac Bobcats (5-13, 4-1 MAAC)
  • Quinnipiac will be coming into the Gallagher Center looking to extend their three-game winning streak, featuring home victories over Saint Peter's, Rider and Siena.
  • Leaders: Jen Coffey (2.9 kills per set), Maria Pansari (6.6 assists per set), Alejandra Rodriguez (2.9 digs per set), Elizabeth Kloos (0.85 blocks per set).
  • The Purple Eagles have dominated Quinnipiac, leading the all-time series 10-1. Niagara's lone defeat came in a five-set thriller in the 2016 MAAC Tournament First Round. 
     
Fairfield Stags (9-6, 4-0 MAAC)
  • The two-time defending champion Stags have continued their success early this season, sitting currently on a five-game winning streak dating back to Sept. 12.
  • Leaders: Skyler Day (3.49 kps), Manuela Nicolini (9.69 aps), Taylor Rudeen (4.1 dps), Kaylie Butts (0.82 bps).
  • Fairfield leads the all-time series over Niagara, 32-10. The Stags have won the last three matches in the series, with Niagara's most recent win coming on Sept. 19, 2015, when Niagara won in five sets.
