DeLola Leads Men’s Cross Country At Little 3 Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, N.Y. – The Niagara University men's cross country team opened the season hosting the Little 3 Championships at Fort Niagara in Youngstown, N.Y. on Saturday.

Meet Marks
  • Sophomore Ryan DeLola finished in 10th place with a personal-record time of 16:20.18.
  • Two freshmen also notched personal-records. Spencer Swoboda ran the race in 17:04.20 to finish 22nd overall and Joe Tricario completed the race in 17:14.73 to finish 26th.
  • As a team, Niagara placed third.

Coach's Corner
  • "It was a really nice way to open the season. We had great weather and our teams put forth a solid effort. We went, for the most apart, as we had planned, so we were able to get a really good idea of how fit we are and what we still need to do as the season rolls on. Overall, we did pretty well considering how young a squad we are for both the men and women. It will take more time for them to start gelling, but they're a wonderful group this year. Both the men and women are 100% enthused for the sport, supportive of one another, and eager to do as well as they can. There were a few nerves as it was the first meet, and a home meet at that, and they were a little fatigued from just wrapping up pre-season; but those are easy fixes, so we're on the right track. We had anticipated to see some personal bests (DeLola, Webster, and Swoboda), and we definitely did that. DeLola and Webster ran very strongly; and then to have two freshmen come in second on both sides (Klinowski and Swoboda) was a nice boost of confidence for them. Our returners were all quicker than a year ago, so we're satisfied for the day, but know there's much more to come." - head coach Christine Kloiber
