Women's Basketball Edged By Drexel In Final Seconds

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Victoria Rampado recorded her second straight double-double as the Purple Eagles were edged in the finals seconds by Drexel on Thursday afternoon.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles were seconds away from a win, before Drexel hit a 3-pointer with six seconds left to pull ahead, 66-65. After eight points from Rampado and four from Kharysma Bryant, the Purple Eagles led the Dragons, 58-49, with a little over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. But Drexel went on an 8-0 run and were behind by only one point, 58-57, with one and a half minutes left. Rampado sank a 3-pointer to put NU ahead, 61-57, and with 21 second left, Niagara led by five points, 65-60. A Dragon three cut the lead, 65-63, before Drexel hit its final game-winning shot.
  • To open the third quarter, Maggie McIntyre hit a three to give NU a nine-point lead, 33-24. Moore added 10 points in the third quarter and Niagara led 45-42 going into the fourth quarter.
  • The Purple Eagles maintained their lead throughout the second quarter behind four points from Rampado and Stroemple. NU was ahead 30-22 going into the half.
  • Niagara opened the first quarter on a 4-0 run, but Drexel led 12-10 with about two minutes and 15 seconds remaining in the first. Two consecutive 3-pointers from Morgan Baughman gave put Niagara back in the lead, 16-15, at the end of the first quarter.

Inside the Numbers
  • Rampado recorded her fourth double-double of the season. She had a team-high 17 points and 15 rebounds to tie her career-high.
  • Stroemple and Moore each added 10 points for the Purple Eagles and Baughman had a season-high six points.
  • Jamie Sherburne led the Purple Eagles in assists with five and Adila Gathers had a team-high three steals.
