Niagara Rallies Before Falling In Overtime To St. Francis

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles erased a 22-point second half to force overtime, before eventually falling to the St. Francis (PA) Red Flash, 93-87, on Sunday afternoon.
 
Game Summary
Niagara trailed 60-38 four minutes into the second half before reeling off a comprehensive 29-4 run in an eight-minute span.  The Purple Eagles gradually chipped away at the deficit with mini-runs. Niagara scored 12 straight points, with Matt Scott providing seven points, to cut the lead to 60-50. After a SFU basket, the Purple Eagles raced into the lead behind a 17-2 spurt spearheaded by Kahlil Dukes, Keleaf Tate and Dominic Robb. The trio combined for all 17 points and accounted for all four assists during the run as Niagara took a 67-64 lead with 7:22 remaining. There were two lead changes and three ties up to the 47 seconds mark in the game.
 
St. Francis took a 78-76 lead with 21 seconds left on a jumper, but Scott tied the game on the next possession to send the game into overtime. However, the Red Flash immediately seized momentum with a 7-0 run to start overtime. A James Towns 3-pointer with nine seconds left cut the deficit to four points which was the closes Niagara would get in the extra frame.
 
Niagara led 15-11 five minutes into the game, before St. Francis went on a 16-0 run. The Red Flash led as much as 16 points in the first half and went into halftime leading 47-33.
 
Eagle's Eye On…
  • Kahlil Dukes followed his career-high 31 points night at New Hampshire on December 5 with a team-high 25 points and while dishing out a career-high 11 assists for his first career double-double. Dukes made nine free throws for a season-high total.
  • Matt Scott scored 22 points for his eighth straight 20-point game. He led Niagara with four assists and two steals, while adding five rebounds.
  • Dominic Robb had his breakout game of the season with season-highs in points with 17, in rebounds with nine, and in blocks with six.
  • Marvin Prochet and Keleaf Tate both had eight points and eight rebounds.
 
Inside The Numbers
  • This was Niagara's first overtime game of the season.
  • There were six ties and nine lead changes.
  • Niagara outscored SFU, 21-10, in points off turnovers.
  • Dominic Robb moved into sixth place on the NU career blocks list with 118.
