NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara women's basketball team dropped its home opener to Saint Joseph's, 93-69, on Sunday afternoon.

Game Recap
- The Purple Eagles kept things close with the Hawks in the first quarter. Behind six points from Jamie Sherburne, Niagara only trailed Saint Joe's by seven, 19-12, going into the second quarter.
- With 8:44 remaining in the second quarter, Diona Johnson scored her first points as a Purple Eagle, sinking a three to bring NU within five points of the Hawks, 22-17. Saint Joe's, however, remained in the lead, 49-32, going into halftime.
- Stroemple added five points in the third quarter and Rampado and Jai Moore each had four points. Niagara trailed 73-47 going into the final quarter of play.
- Johnson had a strong fourth quarter, scoring nine points. However, it was not enough to overcome Saint Joe's and the Hawks came away with the 93-69 victory.
Coach's Corner
- "We had a tough matchup today with a very good Saint Joe's team," said head coach Jada Pierce. "We hung in the beginning of the game, but struggled to defensively make a stand. We will look to get back on track in all aspects of our game."
Inside the Numbers
- Stroemple led the Purple Eagles with a season-high 17 points. She also had a team-high four rebounds.
- Rampado added 13 points for Niagara and, in her second game with the Purple Eagles, Johnson scored 12 points off the bench. Jai Moore also scored in double figures (10 points).
- Stroemple and Rampado had two steals each and Dagny Davidsdottir recorded one block.
