Volleyball Visits Fairfield, Quinnipiac To Close Out Regular Season

The Niagara Purple Eagles wrap up the regular season this weekend. Niagara will face regular season champion Fairfield on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by Quinnipiac on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Purple Points
  • Niagara clinched a spot in the six-team MAAC Tournament with its win over Manhattan on October 29. After its victory against Marist on Nov. 5, Niagara secured a first-round bye in the tournament. The Purple Eagles will be the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 match  on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.
  • The Purple Eagles are 17-8 overall and sit in second place in the MAAC with a 13-3 record for their best record in six seasons.
  • Niagara finished its home schedule with a record of 8-1, its second best home record in a season.
  • NU ranks 18th in the NCAA in total attack per set (38.48) and 18th in digs per set (17.58).
  • The Purple Eagles are first in digs per set (17.58) while second in the MAAC in assists per set (11.32), kills per set (12.01) and opponent hitting percentage (.165), and third in hitting percentage (.173).
  • Rylee Hunt is THIRD in the nation in digs per set (6.14) and NINTH in the nation in total digs (583).
  • Five Purple Eagles rank in the top-10 in MAAC categories: Rylee Hunt leads the MAAC in digs per set (6.05), Draik Banks is first in the conference in hitting percentage (.304), Nicole Matheis is eighth in kills per set (2.78), sixth in points per set (3.24) and 10th in digs per set (2.91), Rachel Hall is ninth in assists per set (5.1), and Alexis Gray is 10th in aces per set (0.34).
 
Hunt Earns Record MAAC Weekly Award
  • For the fourth consecutive week and fourth in the last five weeks, senior Rylee Hunt was named MAAC Libero of the Week for the eighth time this season announced on November 7.
  • Hunt led the Purple Eagles with 7.0 digs per set in three matches last week. 
  • Hunt's eight MAAC Libero of the Week awards are the most in any category in the MAAC database since 2011.

Hunt Among The Nation's Best
  • Rylee Hunt ranks in the top-10 in two NCAA active career categories.
  • Hunt is second in digs with 2,246 and third in digs per set with 5.07. 
 
Milestone Watch
  • Three Purple Eagles have come into their senior seasons eyeing program records and milestones.
  • Alexis Gray became the career leader in aces on October 26, surpassing Kari Honomichl's total of 154. Gray is also now second on the all-time assists list with 3,346, passing Jennifer Hansford ('05).
  • Rylee Hunt is second on the all-time digs list with 2,246. She is 160 away from tying Sam Morgan ('11) for first place.
  • Nicole Matheis is fifth on the all-time kills list with 1,218 kills and is seventh on the digs list with 1,262, just 51 away from tying Allison Reis ('14) for sixth on the list.  Matheis is one of two Purple Eagles (Hannah Hedrick) to have over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
 
Single-Season Marks
  • Rylee Hunt has set a personal-best with 583 digs, which are fourth most in program history.
  • Sophomore Draik Banks is currently sixth in hitting percentage (.304) and ninth (85) in block assists.
 
Across The Net
Fairfield Stags (20-6, 15-0 MAAC)
  • Fairfield has won their last 45 matches in conference play, last falling to Iona on Oct. 18, 2015.
  • Leaders: Skyler Day (3.73 kills per set), Manuela Nicolini (10.38 assists per set), Taylor Rudeen (4.5 digs per set), Kaylie Butts (0.81 blocks per set),
  • The Stags currently lead the all-time series, 32-11. The Purple Eagles will be looking for their first win against Fairfield since 2015 and their first on the road in the series since 2011.
     
Quinnipiac Bobcats (9-20, 8-8 MAAC)
  • Quinnipiac is coming off a pair of victories on the road last weekend, defeating Rider in five sets on Nov. 4 before beating Saint Peter's in straight sets on Nov. 5.
  • Leaders: Natalie Alechko (2.93 kps), Maria Pansari (7.93 aps), Alejandra Rodriguez (2.99 dps), Elizabeth Kloos (0.84 bps)
  • The Purple Eagles lead the all-time series, 11-1, and will look to sweep the Bobcats in regular season play after Niagara won in straight sets at home on Sept. 30.
