FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Niagara women's soccer team was narrowly defeated by the Fairfield Stags, 2-1, on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • Both the Purple Eagles and the Stags came out strong on offense in the first half. Fairfield got on the board first, scoring in the fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Purple Eagles tied things up, 1-1, in the seventh minute. After a turnover on defense, Bicknell passed the ball to Betts in the box and she scored easily.
  • Niagara held strong on defense but the Stags extended their lead, 2-1, in the 52nd minute. An attempted header hit the cross bar and Fairfield hit it in on the rebound.
  • The Purple Eagles continued to create chances on offense in the second half, with two shots from Alexis Horwedel and Kelsey Araujo, as well as shots from Eva Bachmann and Breanne Guevara, but the Stags held steady on defense and came away with the victory.

Inside the Numbers
  • Locas' 10 saves against the Stags is a career-high.
  • Betts now leads Niagara with five goals on the season and Bicknell is now tied with Betts for most assists with three.
  • Araujo led the Purple Eagles with three shots and two shots on goal.
