After claiming wins in three of their four matches on their recent homestand, the Niagara Purple Eagles travel back on the road to continue MAAC play. Niagara opens the weekend against the Manhattan Jaspers on Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. before battling the Iona Gaels on Oct. 8, also at 1 p.m.
Purple Points
- The Purple Eagles won their first three home matchups of the season against Marist, Siena and Quinnipiac before falling to Fairfield in five sets in a battle for first place, snapping Niagara's eight-match winning streak.
- Niagara is first in the MAAC in digs per set (17.02) and opponent hitting percentage (.159), while also tied for third in blocks per set (1.82).
- In the NCAA, the Purple Eagles are 22nd in team attacks, 28th in opponent hitting percentage and 31st in digs per set.
- In their battle against Quinnipiac on Sept. 30, the Purple Eagles established a new season-high in hitting percentage (.407), the highest percentage in any performance in the MAAC this season.
- Draik Banks has been a force at the net this season, averaging 1.0 blocks per set, only one of two players in the MAAC to average at least a full block per set this season.
- The Purple Eagles are 2-0 in MAAC road matches.
Hunt Earns 4th Weekly Award
- For the fourth time this season, Rylee Hunt earned MAAC Libero of the Week Honors on Oct. 3.
- Hunt, who was selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, currently leads the conference and is FOURTH in the NCAA with 6.13 digs per set. Her 42 digs against Fairfield not only tied her career-high, but were also just two digs shy of tying a program record.
- Hunt also has the top three marks digs in a match this season, with her Fairfield performance followed by matches against Central Connecticut State (37) and Rider (36).
Milestone Watch
- Three Purple Eagles have come into their senior seasons eyeing program records and milestones.
- Rylee Hunt is second on the all-time digs list. Hunt is only the second Purple Eagle in program history with 2,000 digs, joining Sam Morgan (2,406).
- Alexis Gray is seven aces from tying Kari Honomichl ('12) as the career leader in aces.
- Nicole Matheis is now the seventh player in the history of the program to record 1,000 career kills. She now is currently sitting at 1,104 kills, just 24 away from tying Jessica Anderson ('95) for fifth on the all-time list. Matheis is one of two Purple Eagles (Hannah Hedrick) to have over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career. Matheis is 9th in career digs (1,144).
Hunt Among The Nation's Best
- Rylee Hunt ranks in the top-10 in two NCAA active career categories.
- Hunt is SECON in digs with 2,000 and fourth in digs per set with 4.92
Across The Net
Manhattan Jaspers (0-17, 0-5 MAAC)
- Manhattan is still looking to earn their first victory of the season, most recently falling in five sets to Siena on Oct. 1.
- Leaders: Sandra Lozanova (2.34 kills per set), Zoe Lindsey (5.38 assists per set), Alyssa Rehrer (4.48 digs per set), Erin Hoener (0.84 blocks per set)
- The Jaspers currently lead the all-time series, 25-16. Both teams split the series in 2016, with each team winning on their respective home court.
Iona Gaels (7-11, 5-2 MAAC)
- Last weekend the Gaels picked up a pair of wins on the road, defeating Siena in five sets on Sept. 30 before winning against Marist in four sets on Oct. 1.
- Claire Archibald leads the team the Gaels in kills per set (3.58) and service aces with 41, good for second and first in the MAAC, respectively. Archibald also leads the team in digs per set (2.54).
- Additional Iona leaders: Emma Rose (7.47 aps), Mia Bonsignore (0.83 bps)
- The Purple Eagles currently lead the all-time series against the Gaels, 26-17, and will look for their fourth consecutive victory in the series.
