NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's soccer team battled early against Marist in Wednesday afternoon's match at Niagara Field, but the Red Foxes pulled away to open up a 3-0 lead early in the second half.
Konrad Zydowicz scored his second goal of the season for Niagara on a penalty kick, but the Purple Eagles fell by a score of 3-1.

Game Recap
- Steve Casey came up big in goal for the Purple Eagles with two saves in the opening 20 minutes, including a stop of a 20-yard free kick from Marist's Allen Gavilanes.
- Niagara had a chance to take the lead with a close-range bicycle kick attempt from Matthew Krucko-Moeller, whose shot was headed towards the top left of the goal but was turned away by Marist's Mark Rajovic.
- Michael Lorello broke through to give the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute, taking a feed from Gavilanes and beating Casey with a shot to the far post from the right of the box.
- Samad Bounthong scored 36 seconds past halftime to double the Red Foxes' lead, and Gavilanes collected a chance low in the box and buried a high short-side shot past Steve Casey, making it a 3-0 game in the 50th minute.
- Niagara made a wholesale change of 11 substitutions in the 61st minute, and the energy off to the bench led to a penalty kick chance generated at the Marist end.
- Konrad Zydowicz beat Rajovic with a low shot to the left post for the penalty-kick goal in the 66th minute to make it a 3-1 contest.
- Niagara had two chances in close in the 82nd minute, as Andrew Francisco had a shot from the right side of the box turned away by Rajovic. Alek Wendland got a head on the rebound chance, but his shot was turned away too.
- Marist would hold Niagara at bay for the remainder of the game, sending the Purple Eagles to a 3-1 loss.

- Head coach Bill Boyle: "I was disappointed that we could not make good on a chance for three points on our home field. Credit to our bench players for showing a lot of hustle and energy, they won the last 30 minutes for us and hopefully that can give us a spark heading into Saturday's match."
