NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Niagara men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 road decision at Iona.
Zulfikar Karimi led the Purple Eagles with three shots and two shots on goal, but Niagara was held scoreless by Iona goalkeeper Juan Alcantara Saturday afternoon at Mazzella Field.

Game Recap
- Iona opened the scoring just 3:43 into the game, as Josh Plimpton's cross from the right flank was delivered to Lenworth Lopez who tapped the first shot of the game over Niagara goalkeeper Steve Casey.
- Casey made a big stop on Iona's Luis Mendoza in the 20th minute, but Mendoza received a corner kick off the play and crossed to Joshua Calderon for the header goal, putting Niagara in an early 2-0 hole.
- Niagara generated a good push at the 30-minute mark with Karimi getting his first chance of the day on goal before Mbongeni Tshuma just missed the net high off a corner kick. Karimi had another chance turned away by Alcantara in the closing seconds before halftime.
- The Purple Eagles limited Iona's quality chances early in the second half, keeping the Gaels without a shot on goal on three early attempts.
- Alek Wendland had a late chance for Niagara as the Purple Eagles maintained possession out of a set piece, but his shot was turned away as Alcantara preserved the shutout.
- With Niagara pushing for a goal late, Matias Correa and Killian Colombie broke out on a quick chance for Iona, with Colombie pushing the Gaels' lead to 3-0 in the 89th minute.

- Niagara outshot Iona 8-7 in the first half before the Gaels took an 8-3 advantage in the second to close the game with the 15-11 edge. Iona had five shots on goal to Niagara's four.
